Wow Air promotes SnapTraveler adventures for four lucky winners of Snapchat

  • Snapchatters can win a SnapTraveler adventure with Wow Air.
  • Includes flights, hotels, activities, and travel allowance.

Similar to the “Drink it Intern” promotion by World of Beer where three lucky Beer enthusiasts got to travel the world and get paid $12,000 to drink and share their experience on social media, Wow Air is now promoting their latest campaign where four lucky travelers get to win free four trips to 28 of their destinations.  The catch…record your experience on Snapchat and on Wow Air’s handle (wow-air).

Background on Wow Air
Wow Air is an Icelandic low-fare, high performance airline founded in November 2011.  The airline flies to 28 destinations across the US and Europe with its stopover/hub located in Iceland.  A unique aspect about Wow Air is that when you click on one of the destinations on their website, the company suggests attractions and budgets for each destination and has snaps of people on vacation there.

Note that this isn’t the first time that Wow Air has used social media to launch themselves ahead of their competitors.  Last summer, the company launched a campaign on Tinder where if the user matched with Wow Air, he/she had a chance to win a free trip to one of their destinations.  In addition, the company has a couple of ongoing campaigns for WOW Moments.  In one campaign, you basically build/choose your own Icelandic adventure and post it to Facebook and other social media sites immediately be entered to win your dream trip to Iceland.  The second campaigns asks you to send in your own snaps/videosnaps to be posted with Wow Air and then you have a chance to win as well.

Perks of becoming a SnapTraveler:
– Each SnapTraveler will go on 4 trips lasting 3-8 days each
– Everything is paid for…flights, hotels, activities and a travel allowance
– Possibly become a Snapchat star and have a ton of followers thanks to your experience at Wow Air.

How to become a SnapTraveler
– Must be older than 18 years old
– Live in one of the 28 destinations that Wow Air flies to
– Create a Snapchat story in English
– Keep it under 2 minutes
– Complete your contact info
– Upload it to snaptraveler.wowair.com by Sunday May 8th
– You can apply here.

Winners:
Winners will be announced on May 17th and flown to Iceland to meet the WOW marketing team and get the 411 on the details of the program and their journey.

Wow Air destinations include:  Acilante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bristol, Berlin, Boston, Copenhagen, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, London, Los Angeles, Gran Canaria, Lyon, Milan, Montreal, Nice, Paris, Reykjavik, Rome, San Francisco, Stockholm, Tenerife, Toronto, Vilnius, Warsaw, Washington D.C. (BWI).

Out of all the airlines that uses social media, Wow Air has become a leader in using Snapchat as one of their tools to attract flyers.  I wouldn’t be surprised that other airlines like the hip, contemporary airline of Virgin America (which is recently being acquired by Alaska Airlines) could compete on the same level and attract as many or even more flyers due to its well established name brand and luxury seats/entertainment/destinations.  This is the first time hearing about Wow Air, but I’m sure I’ll be hearing a lot more about them with other social campaigns in the near future.
