“The Voice on Snapchat” Show from NBC picked up a first for Snapchat…a 2017 Emmy Awards nomination for creative achievement in interactive media within an unscripted program.
This Snapchat show first debuted on the app in August 2016 with the series featuring the well-renown singers/coaches of Alicia Keys, Miley Cirus, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. In comparison to broadcasted show on NBC, singing performance videos were submitted by Snapchat users. Fans of the show (including subscribers to the Snapchat channel) voted on the submissions as AJ Mitchell became the first winner of “The Voice” on Snapchat.
It looks like Snapchat is becoming a key partner to media outlets. Rob Hayes, EVP of NBC Entertainment Digital, stated “Snapchat has been an incredible partner to innovate with…We can’t want to celebrate the first nomination of an original show on that platform with them.”
Snap is thrilled for this accomplishment as well. Nick Bell, Snap VP of content, stated “’The Voice’ on Snapchat has broken new ground from the beginning – it is exciting that the first [Snapchat] Show produced by a TV network for our platform is our first Show to get nominated for an Emmy.” Upon getting this nomination, I can only imagine other reality TV shows like The Voice will be adopting Snapchat as a medium to promote and engage their fan base similarly.
The Snapchat Show for “The Voice” will compete against a rival from Facebook Live’s “Stand For Rights: A Benefit For the ACLU with Tom Hanks”, “E-Live 360”, “The Oscars: All Access”, and “Stand Up to Cancer: #Reasons2StandUp”.
The Emmy Awards, hosted by Stephen Colbert, will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 5 p.m. PT. on CBS.
