Royal Caribbean Cruise line is set to offer its customers goggles designed to work with Snapchat Spectacles underwater enabling a diver to capture and snap the underwater world of marine life while diving. Royal Caribbean has coined the custom-designed scuba mask as “SeaSeekers.” Chief Marketing Officer and SVP of Marketing Jim Berra stated “The SeaSeeker will enable all adventure-seekers to get a front-row seat to the thrilling adventures found underwater in a way that has never been possible before.”
As of right now, these SeaSeekers are just a prototype. They can last up to 30 minutes underwater and reach 150 feet below the surface. From June 21 to June 25, Royal Caribbean’s Snapchat channel will immerse viewers in a one-of-a-kind underwater adventures from three different dives. Here’s a sneak peak of the SeaSeekers:
In Cozumel, Mexico with marine wildlife photographer and conservationist Roberto Ochao will provide a glimpse and snaps into the annual migration of Whale Sharks.
In Mexico with marine biologist Gabriela Nava will provide views and snaps of a coral reef restoration project.
In Belize with free dvier Ashleigh Baird to snap the Great Blue Hole, an underwater sinkhole that is believed to be the largest of its kind.
In addition, Berra stated “Snapchat continues to be a favorite channel for curious travellers and is the ideal platform for this first-of-its-kind undersea exploration. We are excited to find an innovative way to use the Snapchat Spectacles with our SeaSeeker mask so that we can bring the underwater experience to our guests as they visit the incredible destinations we sail to. We’ve even taken the added step of applying for a patent for the SeaSeeker mask so that we can bring it to our guests exclusively.”
It will be interesting to see if Royal Caribbean’s competitors like Norwegian Cruislines or Carnival Cruise lines will create similar goggles. More importantly, what other innovative products can Snap Spectacles be combined with?
